6&7 Year Olds have their own rooms in our clubhouse, with their own program director and counselors. Children can take advantage of homework assistance, crafts, sports, and special events. Gym time is provided each day, as well as snack time. Children may bring their own snacks, or money to purchase food from our cafe.
8 year olds-8thgrade have access to our gamesroom (board games, billiards, foosball, table tennis), computer room, homework assistance, arts and crafts, gym games, nutrition, chess, table tennis, photography, sewing, drug and alcohol prevention (SMART Moves), special events, Torch Club, and educational programs such as Project Learn.
High school Students have their own gamesroom and lounge, complete with Internet-enabled computers and printers for homework and social use, flat screen televisions, flat screen video games, couches, and table tennis. Teens may participate in gym games, nutrition, chess, table tennis, drug and alcohol prevention, Keystone Club, and special events.
Photography. Learn the basics of photography, display your photos at our end of year banquet and compete at a the Durham Fair and national fine arts competitions.
Computer Room. Open Monday-Friday for 8yrs-8th grade (our Teens have their own computers). Access to the Internet is available and monitored, but members must have staff permission to be on the Internet.
Sewing meets once weekly and focuses on learning skills related to hand sewing, quilting, garment construction and craft projects. Your child will learn to operate a sewing machine and create projects according to their skill level. Attendance is monitored and levels are determined by skill and participation. All participants finishing projects have the opportunity to compete at the Durham Fair and the Eastern Sewing Expo and Fashion Competition in Worcester, MA.
Arts & Crafts. Meets once weekly.
Homework Help. Our homework help program is designed to raise the academic proficiency of club members ages 8-15 with homework help. There is no charge, Open Monday-Thursday.
Keystone Club. Keystone is a youth leadership club that offers a unique developmental experience to members ages 14-18. Activities focus on three areas: academic success, career preparation, and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystoners aim to have a positive impact on the club and the community. Our Keystoners have been recognized for outstanding service. SMART Moves is our Skill Mastery and Resistance Training prevention/education program, which addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use. The program uses a team approach involving club staff, peer leaders, parents, and community representatives. More than simply emphasizing a "Say No" message, the program teaches young people ages 6 to 15 how to say no by involving them in discussion and role playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills, and analyzing media and peer influence. SMART Moves meets every Tuesday during the school year from 4-6 pm. Free. To join, notify a staff member at the Membership Desk.
Summer Camp. We offer a weekly summer camp in our air-conditioned clubhouse. Our Camp is certified by the State of Connecticut, and our staff are certified in first aid and CPR. Children are able to choose from a wide variety of programs throughout the day such as crafts, sports, gamesroom, field trips, computers, outdoor education, dance, special events, sports clinics, fun contests, and games.
TGIF. Thank Goodness It's Friday! This weekly program is open to 1st grade- 8thgrade students who are members every Friday from November through March. The program runs from 6-9 pm and features weekly dance parties, sports tournaments, holiday parties, games room tournaments, scavenger hunts, computers, video games, and karaoke. Register online, even if you are already a club member.
Torch Club. Torch Club is a youth leadership and community service club for boys and girls ages 11-13, which encourages positive community and club involvement by helping others through volunteerism.
