President's Message

2006 was certainly a proud year for our Boys & Girls Club. We celebrated 50 years of serving youth in the Valley. In those 50 years we have become the pre-eminent youth service organization in the region.

The Club serves hundreds of children every day and we continue to expand our programming to accommodate the growing demands for our services.  The Club runs programming Monday through Friday from 3.00 pm to 10.00 pm serving children ages six to eighteen.  Weekends are just as busy, and an area in which we have seen tremendous growth in participation.  This year the Club started Friday and Saturday night dances and activities to give the teenagers a safe, positive place to hang out.  The response has been overwhelming!

Our sites have expanded this year, running programs in both Ansonia Middle School and Derby's Irving School.  As our Shelton facility reaches capacity, we will continue to branch out to each of the Valley communities to bring them our services.

This impressive success could not be accomplished without a dedicated and talented staff.  We are led, as we have been for many years, by Executive Director Jack Ribas.  Jack's experience in providing quality programming to youth is unmatched and he is recognized as a national leader among Boys & Girls Club executives.

Mike Cotela, Director of Operations, is regarded as one of the finest directors in the Boys & Girls Club movement.

Jim Queen has been with the Club for over 15 years and has built an outstanding physical department, the bedrock of any Club.  Jim is now focused on our plans to expand into Ansonia.

Shaye Roscoe is one of the most beloved members of our staff.  The kids not only look to her as a role model but as a friend and mentor.

Jill DeWerdt has taken a start-up science program and made it a nationally recognized activity.  Our Club was one of five clubs in the country to join Dr. Robert Ballard on his latest expedition into the Adriatic Sea this past summer in Greece.

These are just a few of the outstanding staff that makes our Club one of the finest in the country.

Sincerely,

Bill Miller

President
